Good milling wheat scarce, and in demand at Gs to 7s Gd. Oats are firmer, in consequence of improved Australian demand for seed ; stt cks L.w ; feed quoted at oi Gd. Barley duil, demand nominal. Flour, LIT to LlB ; bran scarce at L 4 10s ; sharps, L 5 10j ; cheese, Gkl ; Hams and bacon, 9d ; potatoes, L2. ♦ AUCKLAND. October 12. A fire occurred at midnight last night, destroying a house at Parnell, owned by Mr. Gisborne, M. H.R., and occupied by Mr. Wilson. Tne building was insured for L2OO in the London and Liverpool Company, and the furniture for LIOO in the South British Company. There being no water available, the fire was allowed to burn itself out.

The Supreme Court has suspendod Mr. H. S. Meyer's certificate for two years. The Bank of New South Wales, representing one other creditor besides itself, was the only opposing creditor, the others having agreed to a discharge. Mr. Moyle, late landlord of the Wharf Dining Rooms, attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself ; but his daughter, 12 years old, cut him down and rati for assistance. Ha was unconscious, but not seriously injured. He had been drinking. - K-UMARA, October 11. The case for the prosecution in Ryan's case was concluded to-day. The evidence ■was unimportant, except that of Dr. Aclicson, of Greymouth, who proved the skeleton to be that of a man. The soner reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at Hokitika in. March, 1878.
