WAITAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The following is the conclus : on of our report of the meeting of the County Council:— ROAD THROUGH PAPAKAIO PRE-EMPTIVE. Mr. Mnrcott moved, " That the road leading through the Papakaio Pre-emptive be proclaimed a county road." Mr. Wheatley seconded the motion. Mr. Duncan moved as an amendment, " That the Council pay L 550 (the amount paid for the land for the road by the Board) to the Waitaki Road Board, and proclaim the road a county road." Mr. Craig seconded the amendment. After some discussion, the amendment wns negatived, and the motion agreed to. Mr. W. Sutherland afterwards moved, "That a deputation from the Council wait on the Road Board, and offer to pay half the cost of the purchase of the land from Mr. Borrie (L 275)." Mr. Johnston seconded the motion. This was negatived. HAMPDEN POUND. It -was f-solved that Mr. H. T. Murcott's yards "be -temporarily proclaimed a public pound. COUNTY VALUATOR. Only two applications were received for the position of County Valuator, viz., Mr. Alex. M'Auley and Messrs. Barr, Oliver, and Paulin, the amount required hy each being LIBO. It was decided to invite fresh applications. TENDERS. The tenders for a number of works were opened, and the following accepted : Footbridges over the Otauiatakau river, Jordan and Stratford, L 146 19s 6d ; formation of road and culverts at Maerewhenua, James Rooney, LlO7 16s 4d ; supplying gravel for the Main South Road between Tcitara Station and the Island Stream, Hugh Wallace, 2s 8d per cubic yard ; forming and metalling the road between Teaneraki and Elderslie, W. Twiss and Co , L 284 8s 9d ; forming road through Borton and M'Master's land, "Wm. Gardiner, Ll5O (accepted subject to Mr. Menlove's agreeing to convey to the Council that portion of the proposed road running through his property) ; for supplying 2000 yards of metal for the Waiareka Road, R. Allan, 7s 6d per cubic yard ; for the supply of 2000 yards on the same road, H. Wallace, 7s 7d per yard ; supplying gravel for road through Hampden, Charles King, 2s 5d per yard ; erection of pound at Teaneraki, James Allan, LS4.
The following tenders were received for building concretebridge near Horseß-inge: r-JJugli Barclay, L 226 ; James King, Ll9B 155.; T. and M. Henderson, L 230. As the amounts were considered too high, it was resolved to cull for fresh tenders. ACCOUNTS. A number of accounts were passed for payment. BOAD BETWEEN ISLAND STREAM AND OTEPOPO. It was resolved that tenders be called for widening and metalling two sections of the Main South Koad between the Island Stream and Otepopo. The Council then adjourned.
