POLITICAL GOSSIP.

Wellington, October 10. Sir George Grey's party met at noon to-day, 23 "members being present. Sir George «ire;', Messrs. Macandrew, Stout, and Header Wood were appointed a commute to confer with the moderate party's committee. The joint committee will meet this afternoon. Although mai y names are- spoken of, nothing is yet settled. Failing the appointment of Sir George Grey as Pr. mier, wdio, it is said, refuses to take office, there is a probability of Mr. Fitzherbert being invited to that position. It is understood that on certain conditions he will accept, October 11. A perfect agreement has been established between the middle party and Sir George Grey's supporters, who have entrusted the' formation of the new Ministry to Mr. Larnach. Sir George Grey and Mr. Larnach have come to a thorough understanding. The names of the new Ministry will be submitted to the Governor this afternoon.
The following card is being hawked about the lobbies, but lacks confirmation :—Montgomery, Premier; Sharp, Postmaster-Ceneral; Macandrew, Minister for Lands ; Travers, Attorney-General; Rolleston, Colonial Secretary ; Larnach, Minister for Public Works ; Sheehan, Native Minister; Takamoana, .Native Member ; Upper House, the Hon. Col. Whitmore. 5 p.m. " A long caucus of the middle party and Sir George Grey's party was held to-day. Messrs. Travers, Ro 1.-ston, Johnston and others wanted to appoint Sir VVil nun Fitzherbert as Premier. The question left to the decision of a majority. Sir George Grey was then elected Premier by 24 votes. He will form a Ministry, and if defeated appeal to the country. About 30 attended the caucus.
