During the hearing of the charge of shirtstealing against Michael Morgan ami Grifien Green, at the Resilient Magistrate's Court this morning, his Worship and Mr. O'Meaghor both strongly condemed the practice pursued !>y shop-keepers of placing their wares outside their shops. His Worship said that thtir doing so placed temptation to commit theft in the way of persons who otherwise might not think of committing larceny. He especially deprecated the practice of leaving goods exposed in this manner even after dark, and said that shop-keepers had only themselves to blame if they found their goods stolen. It was utterly impossible for the police to protect property so exposed from being appropriated by persons who might be tempted to help themselves.

As was to be anticipated, the efforts of a few Oamara gentlemen to establish an Athletic Club have been crowned with unquali-. tied suc'-e*s. " On Saturday evening last, at a meeting held at Mr. Richardson's' Hotel, it was stated that the names of upwards of 100 members had been enrolled, and, as a code of rules have been passed, and every necessary preliminary arranged, the Club may be viewed as an established fact. Mr.- Eidler, one of the maters at the Grammar School, will deliver a lecture this evening in the Session-room of St. Paul's Church, under the auspices of the Young Men's Association. Subject:—" State Education." Our readers will be glad to learn that those who take an interest in this gr- at question are invited to attend. 'J he name of the lecturer is a guarantee that a profitable evening maybe spent. After all, the subject of State Education is not more difficult ihan other social questions to deal with. The drawbaoks to its sa! isfactory solution have emanated in the brains of an over-wLc Government.
