KAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
: ♦- —: —' The usual monthly meeting of the Kakanui Road Board was held at the Board's offices, Tyne-3treet, yesterday. •There were present—Messrs. Gilchrist (in the cha' v ), Wheatley, Aitkenhead, Gemmell, Elder, Morton, Booth, Hedley, Manning, and Thomson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence read and approved. Mr. Kuxby wrote, calling attention to the impassable state of the road leading to his property.— The letter was referred to the Engineer for report. Two letters were read from the Education Board in reference to the road to the Bush Reserve on the Cape, in which it was intimated that a definite reply would be forwarded on receipt of a report from one of their officers. Mr. C. F. Black, attorney for Mr. Fenwick, wrote, intimating that he had no power to grant a road line through that gentleman's property, but stated that the Board's application would be forwarded to Mr. Fenwick. Mr. Thomas Stevenson gave notice of his intention to fence in Section 58, Block X., Oamaru Survey District.—Tne letter was referred to Messrs. Hedley and Gemmell. A letter was read from the "Waitaki Road Board requesting the appointment ' of a committee to meet the representatives of the other Boards with reference to the appointment of an Engineer.—The Chaiiman and Mtssrs. Aitkenhead, Booth, and Hedley were appointee! to represent the Boarel at the conference, and the meeting was arranged to take place on Wednesday, 12th inst., at eleven - o'clock. |
A lett<r was read from the Otepopo Board, intimating the terms on which ti ey were to prepare to join in the carrying out of woiks at Island Stream. The Board resolved that a deputation consisting of Messrs. Booth, Elder, and Gemmell should wait on the County Council in regard to the matter, and that the Otepopo Board be requested to appoint a deputation also. A letter from the Colonial Secretary was read asking for information as to cost of valuation in the district under the Bating Act.—The Clerk stated that he had supplied the necessary information.
A.letter was read from Mr. Fenwick drawing attention to the state of the road in the Serpentine Valley-, and a deputation consisting of Messrs. Booth, Eider, and Gtnimell was appointed to wait on Mr. Fenwick about the matter.
The Engineer reported that one of the culverts on road line from Oamaru to Kakanui was very unsafe, and forwarded a specification of the repairs nectssary to be effected.—The Board decided to call for tenders for the work. Tenders for contracts 37 and 3S were then opened. T. Flaherty's tender of L 364 3s. 6d. for contract 37 was accepted. Only one tender was received for contract 38, which being considerably higher than the Engineer's estimate, the Engineer was instructed, if possible, to reduce the specification. Several accounts having been passed for payment, the Board adjourned.
