NORTH OTAGO BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
The regular monthly meeting of this society was held last evening at the secretary's office. There were present —Messrs. Steward, Ronayne, K". Fleming, Allen, and Greenfield. MINUTES. The minntes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. DISTRESS AT OTEPOPO. A letter was received from Otepopo with reference to a case of distress in a family consisting of nine children, and asking on what terms the Society would be willing to take charge of four of them. It was resolved, " That Mr. Beckingsale, the writer, he requested to furnish further particulars, and that the matter be considered at next meeting." VISITING COMMITTEE. Messrs. Dawson and Ronayne were appointed to hold this office for the current month. SUBSCRIPTIONS. Mi-. Beckingsale forwarded a list of subscriptions amounting to LI 7s. Gd. Mr. Church handed in a subscription list collected by Mr. George Matthews amounting to Liß 18s. Gd. MANAGEMENT OF BARRACKS. A letter from the Under Secretary of the Immigration Department having been read, it was resolved that a special meeting be held on Monday next to make arrangements for the management of the barracks. FOX'S CASE, ETC. The President reported that the two children of Mr. Fox, an applicant at the last, meeting, were now in the barracks, and that the father was willing to pay such sum as the Committee might determine. It was resolved, "That the children be allowed to remain till next meetin"-, and that then definite arrangements be made." The case of Mrs. Man tell, brought under the notice of the Committee by the Chairman, was ref<-rred to the Visiting Committee, with power to act. VISITING COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The report of the Yisiting Committee for the past month was read and received, and it was ordered that relief be continued to the cases on the books, with the exception of one, in nvliich the recipient wrote stating that he was now able to go to work, and thanking the Society for the afsistance he had received. PRINTING.
Mr. Geo. Jones' tender for printing 500 copies~of the rules of the Society was accepted. tenders foe. fencing. A number of tenders for fencing, ranging from 7s. 6d. to 4s. 4d. per chain, were read ; bnt it was resolved, " That neither of them be accepted, and that the question of fencing be reconsidered at next meeting/' ACCOUNTS. The accounts brought up not being certified -were held over till next meeting, and it -was ordered that it be notified that ail accounts must be sent in three clear days before each monthly meeting so as to allow of their being examined. After a vote of thanks to the chairman, the meeting adjourned.
