ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Provisional Committee of the Waitaki County Acclimatisation. Society was held at the County Council Chambers to-day. There- were present—Messrs. Reid (in chair), Borton, Fen wick, M'Lennan, "Wheat-ley, Duncan, M'Lean, and Council (Hon. Sec.) MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meetingwere read and confirmed. DESTRUCTION OF SHAGS. A letter was read from Dr. Smith, of Otepopo, apologising for his absence from the meeting, and directing attention to the number of shags that infest the estuaries of the Kakanui and Otepopo rivers, and saying that, as the shags were now building and their rookeries well known, their wholesale destruction would be an easy matter. The writer also intimated that a number of persons were willing to destroy the shags for sixpence a head, and asked the Society to take the matter into consideration. The receipt of the letter was ordered to be acknowledged, and its consideration postponed until a future meeting. A LETTER FROM PALMERS ON. Mr. W. A. Young, of Palmerston, wrote, intimating his willingness to do all he could for the Society, and explaining the reasons for his absence from the meeting. The letter also stated that Mrs. Young would also become a member of the Society. The letter was ordered to be acknow ledged, with thanks. ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. On the motion of Mr. Borton, seconded by Mr. Fenwick, it was decided to take steps to secure the handing over of the acclimatisation reserve in Oamaru to the Society, and the Bon. Secretai-y was instructed to write to the Hon. "Robert Campbell, H. J. Miller, and M. Holmes, and Messrs. Hislop and Shrimski. M.H.R's., asking for their assistance in the matter. It was also decided to forward a tracing: of the reserve to the Hon. H. J. Miller/ MEMBERS. The names of a large number of members were handed in, and their subscriptions paid. GENERAL MEETING. It was resolved to hold a general meeting of the Society on Friday next, at 11 a.m. SUBSCRIPTION LISTS. It was decided to have a number of .subscription lists printed and circulated throughout the County. j The meeting then terminated with a vote of thanks to the chairman. I
