The Turks gained a brilliant victory on the heights at Keyzeith, after severe fighting. The Russian loss was including General Tchonschraskoft. The Turkish loss was 1200.
All the Powers have concurred in Germany's representations with regard to the Porte's treatment of Russian prisoners and wounded.
Colonel Wellesley's report denies the truth of the alleged Russian cruelties.
Bombay, August 26, 7 p.m. The Russians admit a repulse at Eske Damna, and have fallen back to Sulkamoskoi. The vanguard of Sulieman's right wing has crossed the Balkans at Hamboghan, and is advancing on Gabrova. No date, 11.30. A Russian official despatch states that continuous fighting took place at Shipka Pass until 12 o'clock on the morning of the 25th. A despatch from Sulieman Bey on the 23rd, says the Russian sorties were repulsed. A general assault will be made to-mor-row ; the Russians are completely surrounded ; the Turks command the line of retreat to Gabrova. A despatch dated Stamboul, August 26th, says Sulieman Bey has captured the Pass and attacked Gabrova. DIRECT AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Sydney, August 28. The Premier and Mr. Muir, Minister for Lands, have been re-elected.
