RESIDENT MAGISTRA TE'S COURT.

THIS DAY. ! (Before J. Cdall, and G. T. Fenwick, Ksqs., J.P's.. ! PERJURY. Mary Walker Avas charged, on the information of Sub-Inspector Smith, with having, in the Resident Magistrate's Court, Oamaru, on the 27th July, falsely, wickedly, and corruptly committed wilful and corrupt perjury in the testimony wl.ich she gave upon oath in her examination before T. W. Parker, Esq., Resident Magistrate, upon the hearing of a certain information, wherein T. M. Smith, Sub-Inspector of Police, was the informant, and William Walker the defendant. Sub-Inspector Smith appeared to prosecute, and Mr. O'Meagher for the accused. Mr. O'Meagher asked for a remand, and said he had not been able to find a very material witness f>r the defence. Be believed the witness in* question would he able to corroborate the statements made by Mrs. Walker, and which formed the charge of perjury against her.

Sub-Inspector Smith said he would not raise any objection. The case was remanded until Friday next at 11 a.m. Bail was allowed—accused in LSO, and two sureties in L 25 each. '. ♦ —r 1 (Before T. Esq., R. M.) ILLICIT DISTILLATION. John Chalker was charged with unlawfully having a still in his possession. On the application of Sub-Inspector Smith the case was remanded until Thursday next. CIVIL CASE. Jas. M'Guinness v. Wm. Morgan.— Claim, Ll, money lent. Mr. Balmer appeared for the defendant. Plaintiff admitted that, since the money was lent, he had filed a declaration of insolvency, and the Bench therefore nonsuited him, with costs.
