August 18. The Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report, under date London, August 15, that the wool sales have opened at the level of last series. The opening catalogue contained 5000 bales. 21,000 bales were sent to manufacturing districts. The competition of both Home and foreign buyers was active. The tallow market is quiet; mutton, 43s ; beef, 41s. Wheat (Adelaide) ia worth 67s ; New Zealand, 50s. per 4961b5. The harvest is deficient alike in quantity and quality. In the leather trade the demand is quiet. Best hides, lOd to Is 2d.
