OTEPOPO ROAD BOARD.
The annual meeting of the Otepopo Road Board was held on Wednesday, the 15t.ii inst. Present: Messrs. tlehdcrsoii (chairman), M'Donald, Marshall, jSewlands, Watson, Diehl, Falconer, Ross, and Russell. ~ Mr. Marshall proposed, and Mr. M'Donald seconded, 4i That the minutes of last meeting be adopted as read." The outward correspondence was read and approved. The inward correspondence was read and considered, as follows : A letter from Mr. R. Scott, stating that the bridsre between his property and that of Mr. Darroch was broken and impassable for dray traffic—lt was agreed thai the covers should be renewed. A letter from Mr. J. F. Donaldson, requesting that the Breakneck road be made passable for dray traffic, was ordered to lie over till next meeting. A letter from Mr. Sim, requesting that the Dogs' Den road be repaired.—On the motion of Mr. Russell, seconded by Mr. Henderson, the Engineer was authorised to spend L on it. The balance-sheet was read, and aftei some discussion as to the power of tlit Board to grant the Chairman's expenses when attending the convention, was, on tiie motion of Mr- Craig, seconded b\ Mr. Falconer, approved. The deviation of the Island Stream road was next considered.
A very lengthy discussion ensued, the ratepayers present offering several suggestions.
Tne Chairman requested the Clerk te prepare a statement of where the monej nad been expended in the Sydney subdivision.
At this stage the meeting was adjourned for a lew minutes. On resuming, Mr. Henderson stated that as Mr. Larrocli had been abseiu from the district since last meeting, ther. was no report on Mr. Feinvick's amplication.
The following tenders for contracts 5 a and 55 were opened-. For Contract 52.4 —P. Moyniliani, L3G 10* ; Jas. Roouey. L4O 15s lOd ; Mathew Anderson, L 45 7d ;B. Wallace, L 35 5s 10J. For Contract 55—A. Gilchrist, LOS 4s 7d ; Janiefc Rooney, L427s ; P. Corcoran, L4O 14. 8d ; Mathew Anderson, L 49 5s ; H. Wallace, L 52 5?.
On the motion of Mr. M'Doxald, seconded by Mr. Newlands, the lowest tender in each case was accepted. On tiie motion of Mr. Falconer. seconded by Mr. Ross, the Clerk was instructed to acquaint the Kakanui Boari. that this Board is prepared to perform it; share of the Island Stream road deviatioi provided that the Kakanui Board shal. aSree that the l orthern boundary of tlu Sydney Subdivision be in future the roao line from Davis' crossing to the Maheiu Railway Station. Ll2 was voted by the Sydney member.' towards the erection of a culvert in Shortstreet, Maheiio. Mr. Falconer moved thatL4o bevotec for the formation of Wickliam-sireet amLl5O for the Fiat road, seconded by Mr. Is'eavlands.
The Clerk was instructed to procure ; new rate book.
Mr. Marshall proposed, and Mr. Ross seconded, that the Clerk be appointed for another year.
