The following is the conclusion of onr H report of yesterday's meeting of the H County Council : H The following tenders were received H Construction of Culverts at Pnkcuri Point. [H
P. Heron's tender was accepted. Footbridge over Maerexcheiiua River. Hugh Barclay ...£3lO 0 0 Bignall and Knight 314 0 0 Fresh tenders were ordered to be called for this work. Foot-Bridge over the Oiamatuhau Hirer. For this work the only tender was that of Messrs. Bignall and Knight; the suui being L2BB 4s Bd. It was decided to call for fresh tenders.
Wootkn Culro-t* -„ Mivroir, Port Road. For the construction of these culverts the only tender was that of Messrs. Bignail ami Knight's, the sum being L 33 7s 4d, which was accepted. DEVIATION" OF EOAD AT TRO TF.IfS C'REKK. On the motion of Mr. Mukcott, seseconded by Mr. Duncan, it was decided to call for tenders for this work. closi.no of road line in wajareka HIDING. The Secretary of the Waiareka, J'oad Board wrote, asking the Council to endorse the closing of a road through block 4. Oamaru Survey District. It was resolved —" That the steps necessary under the Counties Act be taken by the clerk, with a view to calling a special meeting to consider the closing of tiie road line in question." inspector of works' report. A lengthy report from the Inspector of Works was read and dealt with. With reference to that part of the report bearing on the closing up of the drain on Messrs. Millington and Amberley's land, it was resolved—"That the Council's Solicitor be instructed to take such proceedings against Messrs. Millington and Amberley as might be deemed necessary." It was resolved—"That the Clerk be instructed to write to Messrs. Borton and 31' Master, and ask if they will agree to an exchange of land contiguous to the road line, from Black Point to Duntroon." POUNDAGE FEES. On the motion of Mr. Murcott. it was resolved —"That the Council adopt the scale of fees laid down in the Impounding Ordinance. PAPAKAIO PRE-EMPTIVE ROAD. The Council then considered what reply should be given to the deputation which waited on the Council at the last meeting. 3lr. Duncan proposed that the Council should take over the road, and pay the Koad Board L3GO. 3lr. Craig seconded the motion. Mr. 3lukcott moved, as an amendment, " That, as the Council have, on two previous occasions, decided against pin chasing the Papakaio Pre-emptive road, they decline to rteonsidi r the matter within a period of six months from date." The Chairman ruled that the latter part of Mr. Mmcott's amendment was out of order. 3lr. Muecott then moved, as an amendment, "That the Council, having decided on two previous occasions not to take over the road, now decline to reconsider the matter." The amendment was seconded by Mr. Wheatley. On the question being put, Mr. Murcott T s amendment was carried. DIVERSION OF THE WAIKOURA CREEK. The Council next considered what answer should be sent to the deputation which waited on the Council at last meeting, asking for money assistance towards diverting the two Waikoura creeks. After some discussion, it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Wheatley, not to comply with the request. HAMPDEN POUND SITE. Mr. MmcoTT moved, " That the Government be requested to reserve, for the purposes of a public pound reserve, all that portion of land in Block XXXVII., | Hampden." j The motion was seconded by Mr. j Wheatley, and carried. j WAIAREKA ROAD. Mr. Todd proposed, " That the In- i specter be requested to furnish a report, at next meeting, of the works necessary to place the County road in the Waiareka Riding in a proper state of repair." The motion was seconded by Mr. W. Sutherland, and carried. SEPARATE ACCOUNTS FOR EACH RIDING. Mr. Wheatley moved, " Tnat the Clerk of the Council be required fco keep separate accounts of the revenue derived from each riding within the County, and that after deducting the proportion due for working expenses, the money should be fairly apportioned, and placid to the credit of the riding to which it belonged, for the purpose of being expended therein." The motion was seconded by Mr. Murcott, and carried. ACCOUNTS. A number of accounts were passed for payment. FINANCE COMMITTEE. Messrs. Wheatley and D. Sutherland were appointed a Finance Committee. BRIDGE OVER THE MAEEEWHEXUA RIVER. 3lr. Craig proposed " That the Chairman %\rite to the Hon. E. Campbell, requesting him to ask the Government to construct a bridge over the Slaerewhenua at Buutroon." The motion was seconded by3lr. Todd, and carried. TELEGRAPH TO DUNTROON*. It was also resolved, " Tf at tiie Chairman write to the Hon. R. Campbell, asking him to bring under the notice of the Government the great necessity for constructing a telegraph line to Duntroon, and opening a telegraph, office at that township." The Council then adjourned after a vote of thanks to the Chairman."
