Sydney, July 21. Very little alteration has taken place in commercial matters. The Commercial Bank has declared a dividend of 25 per cent. The reserve fund is now 1425,000. The Government have abandoned their intention of obtaining ironclads. o , NEWS BY THE SUEZ MAIL. Sydney, July 20. The Suez mail arrived at Adelaide at midnight, bringing London dates to June 8. There are no New Zealand passengers. There has been an engagement off the Peruvian coast between the British war ships Shah and Amethyst and the Huica turret ram. The latter escaped after dark, but so damaged that she was forced to surrender to the Peruvian squadron. Her crew had joined the revolutionary President, and committed piratical acts on j British subjects. J
A German surgeon from Ardahan reports that after capturing that fortress, the Russians plundered every house, violated every woman, and set fire to the hospital, burning the wounded soldiers alive.
