HARBOUR BOARD.
The usual fortnightly meeting of tl:c Board was held this morning in the Harbour Chambers. There were pr< sunt — Messrs. Sunipt- r (chairman). S i .-.j-.va]■■.!. Reid, 3leek/ Gilchrist. M n!.,y,-. and Headland. Mr. M'Gregor, :.':■.■.: :' ■ .■id's Engineer, was also present. MIXL'TES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and continued. oi'TWAUn iokre.si'ox'dexc::. The outward correspondence was read and approved. STANDI;;*; COMMITTEE. The report of the Standing Committee •was read and adopted. The r.-p<>rt stated that the tender of Mr. J. Williams had been accepted for the fencing of the land at the Cape, the rate being Gs. 3d. per chain. The Committee had instructed Capt. Sewell and the Secretary to take steps to carry out the instructions of the Government, as per Harbour Regulations. with reference to the landing and shipment of gunpowder. The Engineer had been instructed to form a culvert under t he line running into the shingle-bank. TRANSFER OF LEASE. A letter was read from Mr. C. Galbraith applying for permission to transfer the lease of a portion of section 21, of the Harbour Board property. On the motion of Mr. Steward, seconded by Mr. Keid, it was resolved, — " That Mr. Gal'oraith be informed that the Board declines to divide any of its leasehold tenures, but that there is full power to the lessees - to grant sub-leases. (vide clause XI.) without reference to the Board, the original lessees being themselves responsible to the Board for rents." With reference to the same matter the following letter from Messrs. Julius and Balmer was read, and the Secretary was instructed to forwa.id a copy of the above resolution : Oamaru, X.Z., July 20th, 1577. The Secretay Oamaru Harbour Board, Sir, — We beg to inform you that the section iu Tyne-stroet, Xorth of the Kvkni.vo Mail ofiiee, now lea-ed by the Board to Mr. C. Galbraith, was agreed by him to be sold to Hector Munro (who was acting as agent for Mr. James <;rave). It has recently been (subject to the Board's consent) sold to Mr. Arthur Toms by Mr. Grave. We have, therefore, to request that the consent of the Board be given to the assignment of the lease from Mr. Galbraith to Mr. Torus. Yours obediently, JI'I.IUS AXU Balmek. Accotwrs. A number of accounts and the wages sheet were passed for payment. ixtkimm acoocxt. On the recommendation of the Auditor, it was resolved to close the interim account. Xi i. 2 WUAHF. The liar!.our Master having reported that No. 2 Wharf, according to the present contract, would not aiford suiiieient berthage for a steam."! - , it was resolved. on the motion of Mr. Steward, seconded by Mr. Meek, "That the Engineer be instructed to make an arrangement with the contractors for lengthening Xo. 2 Wharf by such distance (not exceeding 7o feet) as he may deem most expedient, provided that the price does not exceed schedule rates of present contract." Two tenders for the supply of a 7-ton crane were received, bur. as it was deemed advisable to make certain ;ii ; .era':ions m regard to detail, it w;>s decided to call for fresh tenders. The Board then adjourned.
