THE NEW RAILWAY TARIFF. ROAD BOARD CONFERENCE. July 17. At the Chamber of Commerce meeting, yesterday afternoon, a report from the Committee condemning several portions of the new railway tariff, was adopted ; and a deputation appointed to wait on the Minister of Public Works with certain recommendations. The Christehrrch Medical School has been formally incorporated with the Canterbury College. The next Grand National Steeplechase will be held sit Timaru on August 22. The Conference of Municipal Representatives at Wellington will be held about August Ist. A conference of Road Board Chairmen was held to-day. There was a large attendance. Several resolutions suggesting alterations in the Road Board laws were adopted and ordered to be forwarded to the Minister of Public Works. The meeting then adjourned till after the first reading of the Road Board and Public Works Uil:a.
