MAIL TO FIJI. MARKET QUOTATIONS. ANOTHER FIRE AND MARINE INSURANCE COMPANY PROJECTED. July 12. The Gas Company have agreed upon an interim dividend of five per cent, for the half-year, on paid-up capital ; a resolution was also passed that they should reduce the iDrice of gas one shilling per 1000 feet, The Argus says it is rumored that the Government will try and get a subsidy voted next session for a mail to Fiji. If the subsidy should be of sufficient amount to induce the Union Company to undertake the contract, probably the Company will purchase the liinemoa from the Government, and employ her in the service. The Post says the Hinemoa is to be; laid up, as there is nothing for her to do. The ship City of Madras has just arrived from London, after a passage of 88 days. She brings about 40 Government

imnrgrants and a general- cargo. The Citv had a fair weather passage. July 13. Mr. Thomas reports—Adelaide flour, L 24 ; Colonial, LIS 10s to L2O ; oats, t 3s 9d ; Uran, Is Id ; wheat (chick), 4s 3d , ham, 10-id ; bacon, B|d ; cheese, 7Ad maize, 4s 3d ; pollard, 7s 6d ; potatoes, L 3 10s. A new Fire and Marine Insurance Company is being projected ; the head office to be in Wellington. The prospectus will be issued in a few days. All the principal mercantile men of the place are warmly interesting themselves in the undertaking, and it is stated that all the shares could be taken \ip in Wellington alone.
