The Agent-General's telegram is as follows : London, July G, 7.15 p.m. The Russians were Severely defeated in Asia, and are said to have fallen back to tiie Arax [in some maps Aras] Valley. The attack on BaCoiun is as yet unsuccessful. One J.u-idred and tv.e'lty thousand Russians are reported to have crossed the Danube with an immense train of artillery. T. e Russian main force is south of Babndagh, and their cavalry are scouring the country to the foot of the Balkans. The bank rate of interest has been reduced to 2h. London, July 7. A Turkish despatch states fiat after 12 hours fighting at Biela, the Russians were defeated with a heavy loss, and compelled to fall back. Siiliman Bey is at the head of the Turkish troops marching toward the Danube. Tiie money market is easy. Australian securities are buoyant. Wheat—New Zealand, GOs.
