THIS Company is org-inised in response to the wish of a large number of Capitalists, Merchants, and others, who have already- promised a considerable amount of support, and with the intent of offering to the general body of the public a fun her opportunity of becoming, as far as possible, their own insurers. The increase of insurable property in this Colony has been to rap.d that there is, in Ihe opinion of the promoters, ample scope for the operations of another Company. The Fire and Maiine Insurance Companies already formed have met with such great and unvarying success, that it is unnecessary to refer to the prohtable nature of such undertakings ; but it may be pointed out that this Colony is subject to natural conditions singularly favourable to in-.ura!i c business. One of the most important eon idcrations involved is tlie distiibutiou of risks, which is hero secured through the div.sion of population, and, consequently, of insurable property amongst numerous eeutn s as yet but sparsely occupied. 'J he large proportion of substantial buildings now being erected may a;so be noted as a feature favorable to the limitation of risks in this enterprise. One of the most profitable branches of Marine Insurance is in in; erprovmcial and intercolonial business, a large proportion of which the promoters have reason to rely upon. In the allotment of shares the Provisional Directors will endeavour to secure an equitable distribution throughout the Colony, so as to combine a powenul association of investors for the security of the assured, together with persons likely to influence business. Agencies will be opened throughout the Colony as speedily as possible, laid loe.d Directors appointed. The Chiet Office is established at Christchurch. The following gentlemen will hold office as Directors until the fi.-st annual meeting, when they will retire in ajconlaiiee with the articles of Association : Messrs. J. Studholme. W. Reeves, T. M Hassal, J. Palme-, J. T. Peacock, "\V. Montgomery, G. G. Stead, and YV. D. Camithei's. '1 he Directors intend to secure the services of a thorough ! y experienced and competent General Manager for the Company. Copies of the prospectus and forms of applications for shares may be obtained at any of the branches of the Union Bank of Australia throughout New Zealand, where applications for shares, accompanied by a deposit of 2s. 6d. per sh:ire can now be made. _ All applications will be forwarded to Ohristehiueh as received. The share lu»t wiil close on the 15ih August, 257
