Some little time ago we published a statement to the effect that Mr. Steward was unlikely to consent to allow himself to be re-elected to the Mayoral chair at the expiration of his term of office. What-
ever may have been Mr. Steward' 9. intention in reference to this matter, and however much he might have preferred the retirement and comforts of his own drawing-room to the Council Chamber, and the responsibilities inseparable from the position he has occupied with such credit to himself and benefit to the community, it has been deemed expedient that he remain in office, in order that some important Municipal matters with which he has been intimately connected, and which are on the eve of completion, may have every chance of being brought to a successful issue. Mr. Steward has consented to fill the position for another term, and for this he deserves the thanks of the community.
