FIRES AND ALARMS OF FIRES. FOOTBALL DYING OUT. A special telegram from Wellington reports that Mr. Passmore, Superintending Engineer of Constructed Railwaj's, is about to sever his connection with the railways of the Colony.

There were several alarms of fire on Saturday night, but nothing serious occurred.

Football matches are lacking in spirit, owing to the late fatal accident. Arrived : Ship Dilpussund, 104 days from London, with 17 passengers ; all well. Sailed for South, s.s. Wellington. Passengers : Messrs. Shandlow, Green, Sillett, Benson, Ewart, Hussey, Brown ; Miss Pardon ; Mr. and Mrs. AVoodfield.
