MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The regular meeting of the Council was held last evening at the Council Chambers. There were present—His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Gibbs, Booth, Mainland, Scott, and Headland. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. OUTWARD CORRESPONDENCE. . The outward correspondence was read and approved. CROSSINGS, ETC. The following applications were referred to the Engineer, with powor to act, from Mr. Robert Blair, for leave to make a crossing over footpath opposite Section 31. Block XXV. ; from Mr. Henry Sidon, for leave to make a temporary crossing in Torridge-street ; and from Mr. Joseph Moss, asking leave to open up footpath in Thames-street, in front of his. premises, Section 10, Block XXXVIII., for putting in earthenware pipes. TRANSFER OF LEASE. The application of Mr. Wm. Aitken to transfer the lease of Section 18, Block LII., to Mr. J. G. Finch, was granted, subject to all arrears of rent being paid. LEVELS OF AXN-STREET. A letter was read from Mr. G. Brownlee, on behalf of many ratepayers in Alnstreet south. A LITTLE STAND. An application was received from Mr. Carpendale Mackennie to have " a little

stand to sell refreshments near t[J way Station." The Engineer having reported thai work of obtaining tho levels of the (1 ent streets could now be done withoii terfering with other works, it was del to proceed with the work of comp! the permanent levels of the town. ALLOCATION FOIt WATERWORKS. It was resolved that the question allocation of revenues towards payinj terest on waterworks be postponed i next meeting, or to a meeting to be c by the Mayor for the purpose, if n sary. ACCOUNTS.
