OAMARU-NASEBY RAILWAY COMMITTEE.

o A meeting of the Committee was held this afternoon at the new Chambers of the County Council. There we presentMessrs. Steward (chairman), Gibbs, Sumpter, Moore, Hislop, Brown, and Maude. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. OUTWARD CORRESPONDENCE. A quantity of outward correspondence was read and approved. REPORT OF DEPUTATION". The Chairmax briefly reported the result of the deputation to Naseby. APOLOGY AND RESIGNATION. The Hon. Secretary (Mr. J. T. Evans) wrote, apologising for his unavoidable absence from the meeting, and tendering his resignation of the office of Hon. Secretary, as he found that his time was so fully occupied that he could not properly perform the duties of the oOice. It was decided that Mr. G. Snmpter should be requested to act as Hon. Secretary until the next meeting. Mr. Sumpter consented to do so. RESIGNATION. Mr. "W. H. Dansey wrote, tendering his resignation as a member of the Committee. A DONATION. A telegram was read from his Worship the Mayor of Naseby, intimating that the Naseby Town Council had voted the sum of L 23 in aid of the expenses of making a survey of the line. AX OJIISSIOX. The Chairman* pointed out that an evident omission had occurred at the last meeting of the Committee, inasmuch as no notice had been taken of the Clyde County Council. He thought it was most important that the sympathies of the Clyde Council should be enlisted in favor of the line. On the mot : on of Mr. Sumpter, seconded by Mr. Gibe.*, it was resolved, " That the Chairman should communicate with the Caairmui-.'f the Clyde County Council, and the Chairman of the U'aitaki County Council was requested to confer with tiie Ciydc Chairman on the matter."

HON. TREASURER. On the motion of Mr. Soipteb., seconded by Mr. Brown, Mr. Gibbs was appointed Hon. Treasurer to the Committee. THE WAIMATE COUNTY (JOITSCIX.. The following letter was vc:ni : " County Council Office, " Waimate, 15th June, 1877. "The Hon. Treasurer, Oamaru Railway " Committee, O.imaru. " Sir,—l have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the Bth inst., addressed to Chairman, Waimate County Council, stating that a deputation had been appointed to wait upon the Council with reference to their co-operation wiLh the Waitaki and Maniototo County Councils in the construction of railways, and asking when it would be convenient for this Council to receive the same. " In reply, I am to inform you that this Council will have much pleasure in receiving the deputation on Wednesday, the 27th inst. " I have the honour to be, Sir, " Your obedient servant, " Geo. Tenxant, " Clerk to Council." It was decided to add the names of the Chairman and Mr. Hislop to the deputation of the Waimate County Council. RAILWAY BILL. It was resolved, " That Sir. Hislop be requested kindly to prepare a Bill, authorising the carrying out of the railway between Oamaru and Nustsby, by means of a Railway Board, consisting of representatives of the Counties and Municipalities interested, the Bill to make provision for the necessary funds, say not exceeding £3CO,CCO, with a suliicient area of land set apart in the several counties, the revenue arising from which shall form a Railway Fund for repayment of interest and principal. The line, when to be taken oi T er by the Government, together with the fund established fur repayment of its cost; and that a meeting of this Committee be held on Tuesday, the 3rd July, at 11 a.m., to consider such draft Bill."
