WAITAKI ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the Board was held yesterday at the Board Rooms, Tyne-street. There -were present—Messrs. Duncan (in the chair), Fleming, Borrie, Mee, Evans, Easton, Stewart, and Honour. Mr. Oliver, Engineer to the Board, was also present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A deputation consisting of Messrs. Shrimski, M'ZSTab, and Clydesdale, waited upon the Board in reference to the Landon drains.—Mr. Shrimski spoke about the damage done to property by the late floods on the east side of the road, and called the attention of the Bo;ird to tl>3 matter.—Letters from Messrs. M'Nab and Clydesdale were also read in reference to the same maftur, and both of these gentlemen also spok»i strongly upon the subject. Some discussion took place upon the matter, Mr. Flemtxo saying that he had gone over the ground, and found that the damage was caused by Mr. Rasba'ch letting the water through his fence, from whence it fheded the adjoining properties.—The deputation having wit! drawn, it was resolved—That the letters be considered in the ordinary course of business. Mr. Fleming took the opportunity of his last appearance at the Board table to express his thanks to the Chairman (Mi-. Duncan) and the former Chairman (Mr. Borrie) for the courtesy shown by them in connection with all matters which came before the Board. A letter from the Colonial Treasurer was read, informing the Board of the amount of subsidy due.—Tiie Chairmax said the amount had been received. Mr. A. M'Master wrote, asking the Board to lay off a road line along the Boundary Creek, west of the Main Road. —lt was resolved that the Engineer be instructed to lay off a road line from Trig Station C, on the beach, to the western houndary of Mr. M 'Master's land, as shown on map. A letter from Sir. J. C. Gilchrist was read, asking the Board to form the following roads, viz. :—l. Between Sections 179 and 180, and through Sections 120. 12-5, 124. and 122, Block 11.. Mr. George M'Lean requested the Board to have Redeastle road metalled.— The matter was referred to the Engineer to inspect and report. A letter was received from Messrs. Hislop and Creagh, solicitors to the Board, stating that the deeds for the Papakaio road were completed, and that the purchase money could be paid.—The Chahoiajs* stated that on receipt of the solicitors' note, he had paid over the money.—The action of the Chairman was approved. Letters from Messrs. Clydesdale and M'JNab, with" reference to claims- for damages done to crops by the late Hoods, were referred to the Engineer, with instructions to inspect the property and report. The E:sgi>-£er reported that the levels had been taken for works authorised at the last meeting, and recommended certain extensions, which were agre-d to. He also reported the necessity of constructing a culvert, and formation of road between sections 105 to 109, and 141 to 146, block 11., Papakaio : and it was resolved that the Chairman should -brin»imder the notice of the County Council the advisability of yroelaimice the raid from the main road at sc-etioii'li-I, block 11., Papakaio, to the railway-station at Awamoko, a county road.—Yv'ith regard to the road between sections 1-12 to 104. and 145 to 101, same block, tin.- Euglu.. < r having recommended that it s o:;";d be drained through private proper; v. A largely-signed memorial from the settlers on the Papakaio Plan was read, asking the Board to take steps to prevent the diffusion of the two Waikoura" creeks over the plain by cutting a channel from their present outlets into the "SVaiiaki River.
