\ of the Committee was held j a3l evening, when there were present Messrs. Hislop, President (in the chair), r;Ueui, Sumpter, Thornton, Milligan, Either, Tempest, Loring, and Evans. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. leasing endowment. Some discussion took place upon a letter from Mr. Sumpter on the subject of leasing the endowment. Eventually, it ff as resolved that the Secretary should w rite to Mr Turton asking him to forward the Crown grant of the land. 0a the motion of Mr. Sumpter, seconded by Mr. Thornton, it was deeded to invite applications for the lease of the reserve for a term of seven years at per acre. late entertainments. Owing to the absence of the Secretary a o statement of the proceeds of the late entertainment 'given by the Calcined Corkonians was brought forward, but it wa s stated that after paying all the expenses about Lls would remain for the benefit of the Institute. It was also stated that the proceeds of the lecture given by jlr! Bracken in aid of the Institute uaoonted to 303. SECTIONS. The President said he had written to Jlr. Bathgate and Mr. Stout asking those /enfclemen to deliver lectures in aid of the Institute. Mr. Stout had not replied, bat Mr. Bathgate had expressed his willingness to comply with the request, and iaJ submitted his lectures for the Comnittee to choose from. It was resolved to thank Mr. Bathgate, and the lecture ja "Scotland's Poets" was chosen, the ecture to take place between the 20th nd 30th of the present month. RESIGNATION of librarian. A letter was read from Mr. Kidd, tenlerinc his resignation of the office of ibrarian from the 24th July. The following resolution was carried, 'That Mr. Kidd's resignation be held iver till an adjourned meeting, and that fc Kidd be requested now to attend, so hat the Committee may explain to him [nit they are satisfied that he has used very effort to serve the Institute, and tot any movement which ha 3 been on not for the alteration in the arrangements as only been made for. the benefit of the institute, and that he be requested to coniniie his services until those arrangements re completed." Mr. Kidd was then called in and the esolntion arrived at read over to him. n reply, lie said he had no wish to reonsider his resignation, his mind being ally - vie up to resign his post as liruit r fc was decided that the matter a: i s l .;snd over till the adjourned meet- :. :o lie held next week. BOOK COMMITTEE. 0a die motion of Mr. Sumpter, seonded by Mr. Milligan, the President, "ice-Presid-int (Mr. Filleul), Mr. ThomjQ, and the Secretary were appointed a look Committee for the year. NEW BOOKS. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr. [LiEL'L, seconded by Mr. Sumpter, That iie Book Committee should make.,a selec;on of books, the order for the same to e sent Home through the Education loard—the value of the selection not to iceed LIOO. ADJOURNMENT. The meeting then adjourned until that week.
