MAGISTRATES' COURT.
THIS DAY. (Before T. W. Parker, Esq., R.M.) CATTLE AT LARGE. The following persons were fined for allowing cattle to be at large :—Charles Townsend, one cow, Kb. ; P. M'Cusker, one cow, is, : Michael Collins, one cow, 3j. Gel. ; M'Xewsharu, one horse, 2s. Gel. ; Lintott and Oiterson, one horse, 2s. Gd. LAKCENY. John Smith, alias Thomas Hardy, was charged with stealing from the dwellinghouse of George Booth, in Humber3treet, a coat, valued at 10s. The prisoner pieaded guilty. [We gave the particulars of this case in our last issue.] Sub-Inspector Smith informed tlie Bench that the prisoner had only been reh-ased from the Dunedin gaol last Wed-n-.-sd ;a\ w!i'.-re he hau served three months' iii:;.r;~ ,;,imjut fur a similar offence. His Worship, after consideration, sentenced tho prisoner to 4 months' imprisonment in Dunedin gaol, with hard labour.
