The conclusion of the Auckland races and other news did not reach Wellington till nearly 11 o'clock last night, owing to the telegraph wires being blown down. HANDICAP STEEPLECHASE. Perfume 1 Butcher Boy ... ... ... 2 M'G-ce declared to win with Perfume. Connaught Ranger and Don went away with the lead, but refused the water jump. They had a lead of about 1000 yards. Butcher Boy took the hurdles the second time of asking, but at the made fence one of the rider's stirrup-irons gave way, and Stephens (the jockey) rode the remainder of the distance with one stirrup - iron. Perfume won by about three quarters of a mile. AUTITsIX i lANDIOAP.
