At a meeting of discontented inn grants at Halcombe town, at which i Corporation's agent was present by invi tion, it was stated as the grounds of co plaint that they were induced to conic New Zealand by false representation ins to them in England. They had been p mised a cottage with an acre of land L4O, or rental at 7s. Gd. per week three years, when it would become fi hold. Now they were charged L7B, 7s. Gd. per week for four years. T1 had been promised constant work ;it per day, but can only obtain four ds work per week at T>.«. Mr. Ilalcombo plained that the agreement referred applied to the Fielding settlement. Halcombe town more substantial hoii had been built, therefore they w charged more. (Jood-men could earn to 10s. per day at lOd. per yard—l price they were getting. He would that they were provided with the net sary tools, and ultimately a resolution i passed to resist paying more than rental per week, and a subscription was opened to pay for legal assistance compel the Corporation to fulfil the ] i mises under which they had come out,
