[from our own correspondents.] Dunedin, May 2. ANOTHER SECTION OF RAILWAY. The Waipahee section of the railway to Invercargill will be open for traffic in three weeks. FATAL ACCIDENT. The lad whose head was injured by a Chinese hawker's cart running over him, died yesterday. GOVERNMENT INSURANCE DEPARTMENT. The Times telegrams say that great dissatisfaction is expressed at Mr. Knight's management of the Government Insurance Department, and that a conference in reference thereto is now sitting in Wellington. COUNTY RATE. The Tuapeka County Council has struck a shilling rate. DAMAGES. The case of Russell v. Smythies terminated with a verdict for the plaintiff for L2OO damages. GOLD-MINING CONFERENCE. It is understood that the Gold-fielda Wardens Conference has agreed to recommend that leases be granted for water races ; the adoption of administration of justice clauses of Messrs. Mowat, Haggitt, and Shepherd's Bill ; to assimilate the West Coast and Otago mining regulations ; to define the quantity of two heads of water to be left in moving streams ; and to make a large reduction in the registration fees and coat of miners' rights, &-c

At the meeting of the Waste Landi Board to-day it was decided to refer Mr. Hislop's application to purchase section 5, block XXV., Oamaru, to the Corporation of Oamaru, to see if there was any objec. tion to the granting of the application, The Board refused to release Run 75.
