Reporting on the new rush north of the Teremakan, and on the condition of Kumara generally, the local paper writes : —"The great event of the past week has been another new rush ' over the water.' The first discoverers are a party consisting of Melican, M*Hamara, Curtain, and Corbett, who 'averaged prospects of 3gr. to the dish. The gold is coarse, and one dish |ave a pennyweight; rumour at first said 2|dwt. Wing the week, we hear that one 3dwt. nugget has been found by them. On Tuesday, gold was found in claims to the ■oath of them, and yesterday the same cood fortune attended the working m two chums to the north of them, one dish riving ttdwt. The find is on the face of I terrace, where the strata are exposed for a height of abort «ft So elated were the ' rushians' that both sides of the road were marked off for building sites. On the Upper Rush, the party who were deep sinking at last reached the blue reef, at a depth of 100 ft. Their pluck in contending against the water has been crowned by their finding payable gold. On the diggings on this side of the water many paddocks have been washed with average results, the benefits of which the •torekeepers are believed to be feeling. An exceptionally good yield of 50oz. has been reported to us from one of the tunnel claims. According to the official quarterly returns the quantity of gold from Westland appears at 20,9870z.
