>-K »>nw Zealand Industries. —Messrs. 't-'ii-iceia Bros., manufacturers and wholewarthouseuien, of the New Zealand tliin- Factory, following the example of 10 ( f the large manufacturers at Koine, more especially with a view of preventtjw importation of English clo;hiug, are u 'Uj extensive retail establishments in centrj; of papulation. For this pose they have lately iittecl up coniino- '* premises in Messrs. JSliiiuiski and ia l>iuulin;rs, Thames-street, where the 1 '>t their manufactures will be thrown a direct to the miblic of Uamaru. This
branch, which will be opened on Saturday, j April 7, will be under the immediate manage- ; ment of Mr. R. C. Lindsay, and under the personal supervision of Mr. B. Hallenstein, : the head of the New Zealand firm. Messrs. : Hallenstein Bros., under th.e management of M.r. Anderson, started the New Zealand Clothing Factory about thrc; years .ago. j They commenced on a comparatively small scale, but at present they employ between ! 300 and 400 people. They had to overcome many difficulties, and much prejudice, and especially the persistent opposition on the part of the larger houses, glutting this market with imported goods, and no doubt the retailers found it to their advantage to push these in preference to local manufactures. The proprietors of the New Zealand Clothing Factory have therefore judiciously decided to introduce their manufactures direct to the large consuming population of New Zealand, and in order to do so effectually, they have determined to sell a single garment at the wholesale price. The selling price is to be marked in plain figures on every article, from which no abatement will be made. The business is to be conducted strictly on the cash principle, and all goods must be paid for on delivery, but any article, not found suitable may be exchanged, or the money returned. As will be seen from the garments exhibited, the public will now be aide to choose from the largest stock of men's, youths', and boys' clothing, superior in style and quality, and at a proportionately 1 >wcr price to anything that can be imported. I Jut, irrespective of all these advantages, it is to the interest of everyone to support an industry which employs New Zealand labor, and is a direct benefit to the butcher, baker, farmer, mechanic, shopkeeper, merchant. and to everyone in the community.—[Auvr.J
