IN SEARCH OF TREASURE.
A memorial has just been published in the Official: tti-vutttr. of Panama, in which a story' is related which throws into the shade that about the Island of Cureos. The memorialist U P. Supervise, a citizen of the United States of America, domiciled inSenorit, Cormtvof Toulumne, State of California, and residing temporally in Panama. Ho asks the Government to permit and protect hint in making an exploration to search for treasure which he knows to be burird aomewherw between Panama and Chagrus, and amounts to fifteen millions sterling. 16 consist* of gold, precious- stones, and jewellery, proceeding from the Government and private sources, and from the churches on the const of South America. This treasure arrived at the Isthmus during the tatter part of the war of Independence. It was st?nt across the Atlantic with a convoy of Spanish soldiers, who finding difficulties in getting across the mountains buried it. An eye-witness, irW still survives in Havannah, gave the petitioner the secret, and information of the whereabouts to< search for it, and this he now comes to do, and has no doubt of finding: it, though it was buried 53 years ago\. He promises to give the Government its legal share if found. _ The Gotternment gave him full permission ft* exStore wherever tie tikes. The memorialist esices to form a company to assist him in the enterprise. He wishes to have a apart? mile marked out where- he atone can search. We express no opinion, but we wish him alt success, as the Treasury of the State is- much in need of such a Godsend as part of those millions would fee to it, and await with interest the result of Mr. Supervielle's faith in the enterprise he has come to undertake. There is atways somo treasure story cropping up on the Pacific, and it would le satisfactory to have on* of them turn out a reality. ________ m _ mmmmmmmm
