NORTH OTAGO HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A meeting of the Committee of the Horticnlt ival Society was held at the Albion House last evening. There were present:—Messrs. Lemon (in the chair), Steward, S pratt, Earle, Main, Hartley, M'Laren, Clydesdale, Paterson, and Simpson (secretary). FINANCIAL. The Treasurer (Mr. Paterson) reported there was in hand the sum of £72, and £7 more was yet to be received. After paying accounts owing by the Society amounting to £23 16s. 6d., and £ls for the medals, a balance of £33 3s. 61. would be left tow irds the next Show. Ths various accounts in connection with the late Show were then passed for payment. MONEY PRIZES. The advisability of giving small money prizes at the next Snow was then considered. Mr. Eaulh proposed, " That in future money prizes be given to exhicitors not I entitled to medals and certificates." The motion was seconded by Mr. Clydesdale, but on being put it was lost by live to four. ~ THE LATE SHOW. Mr. Spratt moved, " That a sub-com-mittee be appointed to examine into the prizes awarded at the last Hjpbrought forward the ino|io r ~ p|, v pose of deciding whether the ~ .4 m the amateur class were entitled to'stitrvv •is amateurs as defined by the Society's rules. After some explanations had been given, and thi rule on the sun yet had been read, Mr. Clydesdale said that the motion was 110 doubt intended to refer to him, and he thought there need be 110 trouble about the matter. According to th? rule, which said that gardeners should be taken to mean those who devoted the bulk of their time to gard' ning, he was entitled to exhibit in the amateur class. He did not live by gardening, neither did he devote the bulk of his time t) gardening. After some desultory discussion, the subject was allowed to drop. AWARDING OF PRIZES. The subject of awarding prizes was next gone into, and it was decided that, in addition to the medals given to those scoring the highest number of points, the four next highest should be awarded framed certificates, and all other first prize-takers a plain certificate each. On the result of the judges' decisions being examined, it was foun I that Messrs. Bicknell, J. Main. Dj Lautour, and the Rev. Mr. Gitford were the winners of the framed certificates, and that the following were entitled to plain cji'tirio ites : —Miss Gdlord, Messrs. Connell, Simpson, Hardy, Sumpter, Lemon, Churj'i, Gordon, and All Nang. On the motion of Mr. Steward, it was resolved that the certificates should b$ tilled up, and forwarded to the winners by the Secretary ; and that the m ;dals be engraved with the names of the winners and forwarded to them when ready This was all the business, and a vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings.
