The adjourned quarterly sitting of the Licensing Court was held to-day at the Court-house, T. W. Parker, Esq., P.M. ; and John Reid and Jas. Udall, Esqs., J.P.'s being on the Bench. APPLICATION FO3. A PUBLICAN'S LICENSE. The adjourned application of James Little for a license for a new hotel on Duntroou B >a 1 wis called on. Mr. O-'Meagher, who appeared in support of the application, stated that the stable in connection with the hotel had not yet been completed ; but he had a letter from the Eo.i. R. Campbell, stating that the writer would guarantee that ib should be finished in a week. He (Mr. O'Meagher) believed that everything else had b; en done for the accommodation of the public. It would be a great drawback to ti.e public if the license was not granted; as he believed there was no accommodation worthy the name in the district. The Bench pointed out that they had previously been deceived in a similar matter, the bull ling not biin; as promised, and the same tiling miaht occur ;v_r;iin. Mr. O'Meagher urged the Bench to treat this as an exceptional case, as the building was a great convenience to the public, and considerable annoyance would be caused if the license were,. ,iot granted. After some discussion, ■ -> | Mr. O'Meagher stated that'f _boof of the stable had been put on,'' and the stable was fit to receive horses, although not completed. Some further discussion taking place, Mr. O'Meagher asked for an adjournment for a week, though be was sorry to put the members of the Bench to inconvenience. He would also undertake that the applicant should pay the expenses attending the ollicial inspection. .After consideration, Mr. Parker said that, seeing that a similar case had occurred at Moeraki, where the Bench declined to grant the license until the building was completed, the Bench did not see its way to act differently in the present instance, and they must therefore decline to proceed any further in the matter, until the next quarter day.
