A SHARP BOY.
The fate of two girls hangs upon the result of this election. Both are said to be residents of a sister city. One is poor and the other is estimated at 40,000 dols. in the matrimonial market. A gallant young Democrat has been paying attention to both. Both are in love with him. The parents have both got tired of the young man's inability to decide. Each in turn called upon the hopeful's father and desired a settlement of the affair or discontinuance of the visits. The old gengentleman called his son into the office and told him that matters had come to sue!) a crisis that he must decide which of the two he would marry. " I cannot decide till after the election." "Why, ' what lias the election to do with your marriage ?" asked the paterfam. " All to do with it, sir ; I am going to many che richest one." " Then why don't you marry Miss '? she's worth 40,000 dols., and Miss a'n't worth a red." " Hold on, old man ; I ——r 1 is worth 40,000 dols., but then you see Miss 's mother lived in the South daring the war, and the soldiers stole her hens." " Well, what the d—l has that to do with this case V' " Well, you see each one of those twelve liens laid an egg a day ; that's 4,380 eggs the first year. The next year there are 4,380 chickens; say half of them are roosters, she would have laid an egg a day; there's 208,000 eggs the next year. Another j-ear she would have had almost 4,000,000 dozen eggs ; and I tell you, dad, eggs is money. Just think of what the old woman would have been worth if the soldiers hadn't stole her hens. If Tilden's elected, the old woman is going to put in a claim for 4,837,121,321,87 i, and that claim is good. I tell you, dad, I wouldn't marry any girl with 40,000, against such splendid chances as these."
