AN UNPLEASANT RAILWAY INCIDENT.
An extraordinary railway crime is described in the latest tites of the Lorn ton papers. ta a train running between Liverpool and Cheater there were in one compartment three persons— an artist and two laborers— father and »«n r named Holmes. Soon after the train passed Runcorn, the younger Ifetme* drew out a knife and attempted to ont the artist's throat. 'The tatter thought that money was wanted, arul gave him his purse, containing about tH. This the man threw out of the window, and a watch that was offered him shared the same fate. In the struggle the artist received knife wound* in the tieek and face. He and the father endeavored to overpower the young man, hut they found it impossible. The assailant attempted to get through the window, and eventually succeeded, after biting the artist's right thumb nit' and injuring one of his lingers. At this time the train was near Krudsham, and the signal being against it, it had to draw up,, and young .Holmes fell from Che carriage itvto- the pix-foot way just as the train was stopping, lie had buried his wife on the previous Sunday, and had been drinking to excess.
