THE WEATHER IN DUNEDIN.
Dunedin, Tuesday.
It has been raining heavier than ever. All Forbury flat is under -water, and the people have got to row from their - houses on to the main road by rafts. In Maclaggan and Rattray streets, the flood is as bad as it was in 18G8. North and Scoullar's, the Shamrock Hotel, and several business places, are under water. The Water-of-Leith is bank high, and several bridges have been carried away. Traffic on the Port line is interrupted by land slips. On the Clutha line a coal train ran off at Abbotsford through the rails sinking, but no other accident—traffic continuing as usual. News from Taieri reports the plain under water, with every prospect of a flood. The Shag and Clutha Rivers are rising rapidly. On account of several bridges on the Port line having been washed away, traffic will be suspended for two days. At Port Chalmers Turner's house was crushed in by a fall of about 4,000 tons of earth.
