It seems probable that the elephant will Boon become extinct. According to a statement made at a recent meeting of the Paris Geographical Society, England imports annually twelve hundred thousand pounds of ivory, to obtain which it is necessary to kill thirty thousand elephants a year. The total annual destruction of these animals is estimated at one hundred thousand.
