DEATH IN A CELL.

A man named Samuel Rnckey died in a police cell at Tapanui, whsre he. had been locked up for drunkenness. TAIERi COUNTY COUNCIL The Taieri County Council has been postponed for a month, for the purposa of considering the adoption of the Act. SERIOUS ACCIDENT. At an excavation at Maitland-street, a blast fired by a prisoner brought down 2,000 tons of stuff. It is thought that the ground was cracked, as fragments were carried long distances.- Two prisoners and two laborers were seriously hurt.
