SCARLET FEVER.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE EVENING MAIL. Sir, —I notice that a case of scarlet fever has occurred in Tyne-street, and that immediate steps have been taken by the Municipal authorities to have bedding, &c, burnt, to prevent, if possible, the spread of the disease. Also, I notice that the Inspector of Nuisances is instrujted to see that the public dra'ns are disinfected. Taese steps are right and necessary, but I venhire to say taat there are places in town far more dangerous to health than the public drains, or even pig-stys outside the town. I refer to the pond of stagnant water between Itc'ien-street and the Pound, and the old creek bed on the side of Chelmer-streefc. If anyone will take the trouble to run a stick into any part of these localities, they will understand what I mean.—l am, &e., Grvis. Oamaru, December 13, 1876.
