CRICKET.

The Match Committee of the Oamaru Cricket Club have selected the following gentlemen to practice for the Timaru Match, which comes off at Timaru on the 26th instant, under the undermen. tioned conditions : Practice will take place every afternoon from 4.39 p.m. to 6 p.m. Every member whose name appeal's in the list is expected to be down on the ground punctually. Any member absenting himself from moi'e than three practices will, \inless a good and sumcient reason be laid before the Committee, have his name struck off the list. A double wicket will be pitched, and the game carried on as in an ordinary match. The practice will be under the direction of Messrs. A. Y. Smith, F. Fenwick, and J. C. Marshall. The following are the selected players : Messrs. Booth, Dr. Dale, Davidson, Dr. De Lautour, Edwards, F. Fenwick, G-. Fenwick, Holdsworth, Hombersley, Honour, Herbert, G. Lintott, M'Donald, J. C. Marshall, Maude, G. Millington, J. Millington, Nicolls, A. S. Ottersen, H. Prevost, Pace, Roxby, A. Y. Smith, Tempest, Snodgrass, and Walls. With regard to the probable result of the Timaru Match, we hear that the Timaru team is an uncommonly strong one tins year, embracing two or three names of players who have appeared in the Otago-Canterbury Matches, and shown good cricket. The Oamaru men will have their work cut out for them, but whichever way the Match goes, we feel sure, will play up pluckily and well. A member of the Committee waited on the railway authorities this morning to see what could be done in the way of getting a train through to Timaru. ;!He was most

courteously received by Messrs. and Amos, who informed him they would be able to give him a definite answer tonight on the arrival of Mr. Whitaker in. town. One word we would say as to uniform. In the match against Palmerston, our opponents certainly beat us in one thing, and that was neatness of costume. They all, when playing, wore the manly beard, and were decorated, as to their heads and limbs, in nica cool flannel. As regards our men, however, we noticed here, a red cap like a brewer's drayman : there, a pair of evening-dress trousers, and again, an old waistcoat that fluttered mournfully in the breeze, and an all-round-air of unkemptness and want of i;niformity. To obviate this the Committee have selected match-colours for the dark blue for the cap, and white guernsey and trousers—which may be obtained from Messrs. Hood and Shennan. Let our players remember that there are any number of pretty girls in Timaru, who are sure to be present on the the day of the match to see the fun, and that nothing wins its way more surely to the female heart than a neat cricketing uniform corncombined with modest demeanor in the field. The match on the Oval next Saturday will be between the newly-fcrmed Tradesmen's Club, and the Oamaru Cricket Club. The following will compose the Oamaru team :—Messrs. Davidson, Edwards, G. Fenwick, Holdsworth, Homber3ley, Macdonald, Maude, Rice, Roxby, Snodgrass, and Tempes*-. In reserve: Messrs. Marshall,. J. C. Millington, G. Millington, and Jsicolls. Those of the Tradesmen's Club are :—A. Hannah, R. M'Lusky, H. Lockwood, J. Tuny, A. Dray, P. Aitken, T. Le Fevre, H. M'Ennis, Dr. Dale, T. Smith, T. Gay. Emergency men : W. Graham, A. Gerrick, J. Smith, and Clayton.
