PRO BONO PUBLICO.

TO THE F.OITOR OF TUB EVES ISO MAIL. Sib.—lf you will insert the following it may confer a boon upon the working men who may at some future time be employed in the Oamaru Railway Shed, by drawing the attention of whatever Government or Government officials the blame may fall upon to some gross neglect in their payments of money earned in the same, as my own case wilt show. At the same time I am informed it is not an isolated one. and that the same hardships have incurred upon men who had only a few paltry shillings* earned, viz.—losing their time and getting into debt looking after it to find out on what t\ny payment is to be made, and when that day arrives to be totd there is no money come to pay them, allowing the best time of the year to pass, and keeping them like prisoners about Oamaru, spending their time and money, when perhaps* they could leave Oamaru when they wanted, and employment might be had elsewhere. I went to work in the Government Railway Shed at Oamaru on the 2-">th October, and worked up to the 4th November, during which time I earned £3 65., working sometimes as early as live o'clock in the morning, and sometimes as fate as half-past ten o'clock at nyhfe, without getting any more than what I would get per hour in any usual day's work. It is now the 2nd of December, ante I was totd no money had arrived yet to pay me.—l am, &c,

A StiTFEBER. Oamaru, December 2, 1876.
