MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
The nomination of candidates for election to the office of councillors and auditors for the Municipality of Oamaru for" the year ending August Ist, 3877, took place at noon to-day, at the Council Chambers. There was a numerous attendance of ratepayers, his Worship the Mayor occupying the chair. There was also a full muster of members of the-.Council. The following were nominated for the office of Councillors : JETTY WARD. John Mainland, proposed H. Roxaxne, seconded by Brown. . HIC4H WARD. Alfred J. S. Headland, William M'lntosh, Baudinet. THAMES WARD. Joseph Booth, proposed by Gtibbs,' seconded by Henry'Aitken. Thomas Kennedy, proposed by R* Carpenter;, seconded by Robert C. Lindsay. . severn ward. . James M'Nab, proposed by David Henderson, seconded by Alexander Smellle. Anthony Rodgers, proposed by Samuel Gibbs, seconded by Thomas Kennedy. James Johnston, proposed by Robert Smart, seconded by John Dooley. j
"* James Bee, proposed by Henry Aitken, seconded by Francis Robertson. The nominations for the office of Auditors were as follows : Stanley Martin John Church Jabez Job Ham. Councillors Mainland and Headland thanked the ratepayers for the honor confeiTed in again returning them without opposition, and expressed their desire to devote their best services to the welfare of the borough. Messrs. Rodoers and Johnston also addressed the assemblage, and after one or tiro questions had been put to the candidates, the Mayor declared that the polling for the contested Wards, as also for the office of Auditors, would take place on Tuesday next, the Ist August. The proceedings then terminated.
