To be a missionary at Foochow is not the most pleasant mode of spending life. Recently an unfortunate eatechist there and several Chinese Christians were stripped and hung up by their thumbs. The mob then tied ropes to the Christians and led them naked through the streets, calling out, " Come and see the foreigners we have here." After being subjected to all kinds of- indignities they were placed in a .'b.oat>:aiid sent away from the town. The church was destroyed. The British Government has finally decided not to" surrender the forger Winslow to the United States authorities, because they refuse to give assurance that he snail not be tried for other unspecified offences. America consequently has given notice of the abrogation of the extradition treaty.
