FATAL RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
Our special telegram published on Saturday referred to a fatal accident on the Clutlia line. The following additional particulars we take from the " Daily Times —"A railway accident, resulting - fatally; occurred yesterday- on tlie-Dunedin and Clutlia Railway to Ricliard Thomas, driver of a goods train. going back about; 200 yards, tlie unfortunate driver was found on his back in the ditch. He was at once placed in the van, and the train went oil to Stirling. There they fortunately found Dr. Smith, of Balclutha, who, on examination, pronounced the man to be suffering from concussion of the brain and other injuries. Everything that could be devised for the relief of the sufferer was done, and lie was placed in the train which arrives in town at 8.56. At six minutes to nine Thomas expired, never having spoken from the time of the accident. He was single, and had been employed on the Otago Railways about two years—half of that time in Southland."
