A" severe and very singular explosion occurred lately in Grey-street, Newcastle-on-Tyne, close to" the branch "Bank of England, and to the preiniies' of Messrs. Reid and Sons, silversmiths. ' The private door of the Bank was blown in, and several of the windows,. while the plate-glass windows .of the silversmiths' shop were destroyed, and the dial of a clock apparently 1 blown out; ' The windows of adjoiiung premises, and those oh theop--'posite side of the street, were likewise broken! At first it was supposed that it was due to the accumulation of ordinary gas, -but it Was subsequently discovered that a youth who had been picked up in the street with hifi hands and face injured, and been taken "into, a chemist's shop, had i been rallying a bag containing the oxygeji and hydrogen- gaw-iused in producing Ihe lime light. - Ouputtihg iti on the ground it exploded. .
