Sharon has a' nice, easy action and should^develop Into a top-notch, stroke with a little more ract ing experience. Pritchard falls back too wJS the boat, but has shown much improvement m the last two rows. The senior pairs at Picton will be . fought out between Star and Wairau, and the former should win. The junior pairs should be one of tlie best races of the day. Blenheim has two crews engaged, and the better of Star 6 flght ° Ut the lssue with i The Akaroa regatta is also to be held on New Tear's Day, when the senior fours should provide a splendid race. Avon, Union 'and Canterbury clubs will he represented by strong crews, and the first-named may prove the winners, ■ though it will be a tight go. I Ayon will be represented m the junior [ double sculls at Akaroa by Woodham and Andrews, winners of the maiden at the Head of the River races last Saturday. This pair have perfect combination, with plenty of weight and good length m the stroke. They are very highly thought of; m fact, expected to have an unbeaten record this season. Three crews will compete m the senior fours— Picton, Star and Wairau. The Picton crew won last year, and subsequently, at the Dominion Championships won the big event. The climatic conditions so far this season have been much against rowing, and very few oarsmen will be really fit by New Year's Day. Taking last season's form as a guide, it would appear that the big event will again go td Picton, but the champions will probably have . some difficulty In beating Star. It should be a fine race, with the verdict going to Picton.
