SOUTHERN CIRCUIT
FIELDS FOR OPENING DAY Dunedin Doings Will Be of Assistance At Following Fixtures . HORSES WITH RIGHT LABEL ON THEM (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christehnrch Eepresentative.) The Dunedin Club's summer meeting serves to introduce tht opening of the southern racing circuit extending over Christmas and New Year, so form at this meeting will be closely watched m an endeavor to -find winners later on for the Wyndham, Waikouaiti and Southland gatherings.
THE Summer Hurdles will have the honor of introducing the week's racing, and seeing that Antrim Boy was the victim of exceptionally bad luck at his previous outing, this form will not be forgotten by racegoers and he is likely to carry the bulk of investments. Membo's form at the C.J.C. meeting was not his best, and Amorist, which has been m the money m his last three efforts, can be expected to beat him, and these two will probably be Antrim Boy's hardest nuts to crack. Dumblane won so well m the Highweight at Ashburton that he cannot be passed over m the eight furlong Salisbury. He seems to be racing more solidly now than ever, and looks good enough to account for this mob. Palmary, by his good fourth m the Apprentices' Handicap at Riccarton and his placing at Ashburton, is entitled to respect; and will probably do better here. • Shortly has a .big lump of weight, but has always to be con-
sidered, and as the class is not particularly strong he will be found going on when the others have had enough. The Otokia Handicap should be one of the best races of the day, and nothing appeals more than Glenrowan, which by his Ashburton victory showed that he was m just about his best form again. He should be the hardest to beat. Meprisant has been shaping m improved form since last raced, and an improvement can be expected on that form. . He, with First Raid, which has at last struck a winning vein, should be the only ones capable of extending Glenrowan. The biggest field of the day will be paraded m the hack six, and there are one or two m this number that are likely to reach much higher company. Kakara, on the "same track, m October, beat all but Master Anomaly, but Murray Aynsley's mare has improved a lot since then. She jvill be confidently backed to beat this bunch.
