"HE WILL LAP US"

Gray Is Not Riding Waiting Race

W/ITH just over a third of the season " over Hec. Gray has left" his jockey cobbers far astern on the winning ladder, and he is now out m front, and not riding a waiting race. He was at Woodville and won four races there. In all he had nine mounts, but his riding money -was nothing to write home about. When Gray was winning his second race, "Truth" was tickled to death listening to the remarks of a fellow jockey, who is by no means at the bottom of the ladder. Gray was winning the Maiden on Beverage when this rider started. "Look at that Gray- Strike me hurray, he's going to distance us. If I | rode five winners a day he'd ride ten. I tell you, he will lap us." Unfortunately for the other riders who aspire to win the most of the season, this is only too true. Gray. went to Waipa and rode another three, bringing his total to fortythree. He is twenty ahead of the next on the list, Larry Wiggins. Gray works hard for. his success and he deserves it. When Woodvilje finished, Hec. jumped aboard the Limited that night and hurried off north to be at Takanini to ride work the next morning. As he says himself, he's happy only when he is on a horse.
