"Genial Jack"

KNOWN throughout : the Auckland and-Southland provinces, and m quite a few districts m between, for his happy ' nature and gift of yarnspinning; , Jack Garrett, formerly a traveller for the firm of Macky, Logan arid Caldwell, Ltd., has recently dropped his satchel of samples and taken up the duties of assistantmanager of the "firm's Wellington warehouse. It is thirty-six years ago since he joined up with the firm, his first job being to lick stamps m the Auckland office. Then, with the formation of a branch of the nrnj m Dunedin, he was sent to the southern city, and later, when a warehouse was opened m Invercargill, transferred to the latter city as manager, though he still did a bit of travelling. . The company closed down all its South Island branches a * few months ago, and .this led to "J.K.'s" appointment to his present position. None were more genuine m their congratulations' then than the staff he now controls. "Genial Jack" is the name they know him by. Formerly a keen yachtsman, he now devotes his surplus energies to golf.
