AN AID TO BEAUTY
Don't' Overdo The Powder And Rouge Stunt '
A FEW PRACTICAL HINTS
Time was when the use of cosmetics was considered to have a deleterious effect on health, and many were the warnings to be heard of the slow deaths from poisons introduced into the system m this way. "
VIO one seemed to realize that actors A ' and actresses had been using make-up for generation upon generation without any harmful effect, but any fears of weakened health through cosmetics have been dispelled by the high quality of the preparations m our modern times. Doctors now admit that face powder and rouge of good quality can do the skin no harm, and since every woman is expected to take advantage bf every subtle aid to good looks they go to it with a vengeance* In fact, they commit the unpardonable sin of flaunting their, aids m the worst possible way, to such an extent that one can be pardoned for being oldfashioped/ and wondering if such a plastering on of make-up really is not harmful to health. In trains, m buses, and m restaurants you see them' at it with sticky-looking lipsticks, with grimy-looking powder puffs, and if you happen to be/ sitting opposite one of these travelling running repair shops, you find that when the operation is over the subject looks worse than before. As there are commandments m our
daily life, so there are commandments m powder puff philosophy which women are beginning to take notice of and practise. Remember, powder, no matter how expensive and perfumed, will never disguise a bad complexion. Keep the skin healthy and smooth. Put make-up on a clean skin only. Powder puffs are cheap enough, so [don't cling to one for weeks. Keep half a dozen going, then they'll always be clean. A piece of clean cottonI wool makes a good substitute. I Take your time about it. Blend I rouge and powder well into the akin, so that it forms a part of you, and not just a very noticeable adjunct. Face a good light when you powder. Buy preparations of good quality. Choose a shade of powder and rouge to enhance your general coloring. $ These little hints will make a big difference to your appearance r and : they soon become so much a part of j'ou that you do them instinctively and very effectively.
